From inside...Epiphany

Epiphany Castro is not your ordinary spoken word artist..in fact...she is extrodinary..marching to her own beat..carving her own path...she is groundbreakingly refreshing and different than anything or anyone you may have heard before...
Born and raised in Berkeley, California -she began singing and performing at age 5 years of age in church.
She studied theatre arts at San Francisco state and began singing in local bands in the bay area. In 1985 thru 1988 she performed with the band, Shy hands, whose most noted member was Dwayne Wiggins of Toni Tonee Tony. From 1988 to 1994, she performed with the band, Riot Going On. Epiphany also performed as a session singer for various studios like David Bryson’s critically acclaimed Dancing Dog Studios. Writing Music mostly, she did a short stint in London appearing at many venues. After returning to the United States, she embraced the stage once again, playing local gigs in the Bay area until starting a family and concentrating on a teaching career.
In 2007, Epiphany surrendered to pen and paper, and began writing poetry. She released a short book called “Everything and Nothing”, soon afterwards. Finding a different muse, she began taking spoken word more seriously. Encouragement by many wonderful artists and friends spawned a show on Blog Talk Radio called Epiphany’s House. This program focuses on spoken word and music, airing on Sunday afternoons.

“Soul flower” his first solo project, has become a favorite among avid fans of spoken word. In “Soul Flower”, she demonstrates her many influences like Billie Holiday, Lewis Taylor, and the legendary group; Earth, Wind and Fire. Her voice rings with truth and confidence, as the melodic lyrics entices the senses with a passion unique and eloquent.
March 27th,2011 she released her "soft more" album,"The Alchemist"..eagerly awaited and highly anticipated,it has gained critical acclaim already.. It is an experience ...an abundance of magic,love and destiny..this is why Epiphany is known as "The Lyrical Sorceress"...Just wait...magic has arrived...

Sun Chile

Sun Child..

I am not your ambassador

I am not your agent, envoy, figurehead, delegate or representative

I seek to merely educate..

The human race? The humans race…

What are we racing from?

What are we racing to?

What are we racing for?

My life is not a race…

Why is yours?

My goal is to emancipate

Thoughts…

Emancipate from the chains of restrictive negativity

Encircling my ankles mercilessly

As a constant companion constantly

Not long ago I was bought and told and sold

A boatful of lies

Lies by design

A blueprint to annihilate my very spirit

The architects had a detailed plan

Striking at the heart of a dove

As only a vulture can

Piercing and pecking at eyes

Eyes meant to simply stare at the sun

Yet with clarity comes a new sense of responsibility

To scratch and sniff far beyond the surface

Beyond the oblivious and the obvious

Delving perhaps into the human condition

And on occasion the inhuman condition

Those breeding humiliation and degradation

Like a rabid beast

And as with all rabid beasts they must be put down

One bullet to the nucleus and we can call it a wrap

I will call it a pebble on the road of restoration

If you want to even call it that

The lesson in it?

The great revelation?

Infection is not always infectious

And never a death sentence of a worthy soul

I shall never be emotionally cauterized

Nor will I be creatively paralyzed. Instead…

I just SUPERSIZED my life as I knew it and realized

All over again. A rebirth a necessary nudge

That with no evil there would be no good

And with no good there would be no evil

This existence flourishes thru the act of balance

Change your mind-change your life…

Change your mind=change your life

And keep staring into the sun….
